Schedule Reliability Depends on the Details

Some of those factors can be managed early. Parts with known lead times should be identified during planning. Vendor work should be coordinated around the primary maintenance sequence rather than dropped into the schedule as an afterthought. It can be smart to combine work, but only when the math works. Combining several tasks may reduce duplicate access and downtime. On the other hand, adding a major upgrade or elective cosmetic project to an already tight inspection window can put the entire schedule at risk. The decision depends on the aircraft’s mission, the flexibility of the next trips, parts status, and the operator’s tolerance for contingency.
